You think he acts like this in a room of his peers? No, because they are his equals or superiors, and he knows it. This is why he prefers to be around those he deems less intelligent than himself. The greater he deems that difference to be, the more excited he becomes. This excitement manifests as rude, pompous behavior that is overall aggressive, impatient, and, if you listen for it, even angry. It is almost as if your incompetence is insulting to him, despite his joy, as he revels in his ability to correct your ignorance.

Something that just occured to me is if Stolz had been hired to play the father. I really love Crispin Glover's performance but, there is actually a solid resemblance between Fox and Stolz. Unfortunately, it had to play out this way. I hate it when people criticize Stolz for being fired like he isn't a great actor in comparison to Fox when he just wasn't what the filmmakers wanted.

It did not leave me distressed at all! It was the longest most boring movie. I felt like gouging my eyes out. The only reason I finished it was thinking something really good, must happen to make this a great horror movie. The first 25 minutes seem like an hour of just watching kids legs walk around in the dark The cartoon on the TV was better than the movie. Which after a while that even got on my nerves. I caught the idea between the character in the cartoon and the sister, both disappear or disappear from the home. But this was not horrifying. I've seen way better movies about isolation and abandonment. Watch an Ingmar Bergman, movie watch Cries and Whispers and then talk about distress. This isn't a horror movie. It is full of despair, distress and dying. But most of Bergman movies, are very tense and leave the viewer feeling disturbed and thinking about it for a long period of time.

Studied lots of aerospace engineering, specifically new plane design. You need to know a good bit about physics and fluid dynamics, which requires precise math. I wonder if a plane was built with TH "new math", would he actually try to fly on it. I am guessing no way.
